A New Year

11 01 2012

Happy January! Life (work mostly) has been super busy so by the time I get home the last thing I want to do is be in front of a computer, but I have missed blogging. And what better way to get back in the swing of things than with a CSA post?

We had a long break from our CSA because the deserving folks over at Eatwell Farm took the week of December 28th off, and since we are every-other-week subscribers, that means we haven’t had a box since December 14th. Anywho – we were excited to get a big batch of fruits and veggies: mandarin oranges, arugula, spinach, broccoli, romanesco (that weird green looking cauliflower stuff), bok choy, turnips, daikon radishes, leeks, a savoy cabbage, and apples. There was also a bunch of collards but I swapped it for more apples. And we got doubles of a bunch of things: turnips, broccoli, and romanesco. Hellooooooo, greens!

While we’re on the topic, I want to encourage you to join a CSA if you haven’t yet. And if you tried in the past but it was overwhelming, see if you can’t find one that does every other week subscriptions. That makes it a lot more doable for smaller households. And if you’re in the Bay Area, join Eatwell! The CSA is well run, has great variety, and averages to about $27 per week for really good organic produce (less if you buy in for more than a month at a time) without eggs. Just look at the bounty above! How could you not see that it’s a sweet deal? Also – the folks at Eatwell have had a tough blow recently and could really use the support.

And if you find yourself with a few vegetables you don’t know what to do with, we’ll swap recipes!
